I've never seen one broken, and can't imagine how it could get that way, unless someone jerked the bolt to the rear very hard, not knowing to lift the catch.

Heres one for the record books. I have an M48A front guard screw that is split right down the middle length wise. It happened while it was being removed w/o any hammering or undue pressure.

perhaps a dull threading die caused internal stress. over time it may just have popped with with metal fatigue, and the swelling and contraction of the wood. kind of like when you see old old shells...

I have seen other posts where the same screw broke for no apparent reason.All of these I have heard of were on Turks.The more I listen, the more I hear......and vice versa.
